Mobile Location
Tags:
location, mobile, rest, positioningThe Mobile Location API provides you as a developer with client-side positioning. It utilizes cell-ID to find the position of an end-user’s mobile phone.
The cell-ID is a unique number that identifies the radio base station that the user is currently using for communication. By looking up the location of that cell you then get the location of the user.
Put simply: you get the cell-ID from the user’s device and send it to cell-ID Look-up. Cell-ID Look-up finds the position of that cell and translates its cell-ID into a geographical position.
The cell-ID Look-up has information about the positions of mobile network cells from all around the world. The database currently includes around 6 million cells and new cells are continuously added.
